Man Utd U21 coach Joyce delighted with winning Valdes debut

Victor Valdes has made his Manchester United debut for the U21 team.

Valdes made his first appearance for Manchester United as he played the full 90 minutes as a guest for the U21s against Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village.

Although he was beaten by Jerome Sinclair's first-half strike, the experienced former Barcelona goalkeeper showed plenty of quality as United won 2-1 in front of 5,102 fans with goals from Nick Powell and Paddy McNair. Valdes made a smart early stop at his near post and our video also shows Powell's superb header which opened the scoring.

U21s coach Warren Joyce told MUTV: "Victor's been excellent in the dressing room and not only tonight. When he first came to the club, he was telling us about his time at Barcelona and it's been good to have him around the lads. Obviously, he wants to play in bigger games than this but he treated it like a big game and did everything professionally."
