Man Utd U21 coach Binnion reveals teen trio training with senior squad

Manchester United U21 coach Travis Binnion has revealed three teens have trained with the first team this past week.

Binnion says senior management take a keen interest in the club's academy talent.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "I advise in the instance of who gets the initial look, but the first-team staff might say 'we want 10 players and these types of positions' and I know what they're after in terms of being able to deal with the ball and physically.

"Some come back and still go with the first-team intermittently, but that's the first layer. Then once the season is up and running, the manager and his staff have a good idea of the older players in the professional development phase.

"In the last two days, we've had Jayce Fitzgerald, Jack and Tyler Fletcher [three players who are 16 years old], who have only been full-time footballers for around four or five months, training with the first-team.

"There's always a shock factor when players first go, thinking 'wow, this is quicker, the players are better, the standards are higher, the manager is expecting more', so we try to replicate that with demands on them.

"Then you get the adaption period, which is normal with anything when they think 'I can deal with this, it's my 10th time here now', but when the novelty has worn off, some players go the other way and can't sustain what they delivered.

"The smart ones think 'I'm learning each day, I'm getting better each time I go over', although the development spell any player has with the first-team is bound to set them up better for when they go next time."
