Manchester United will battle it out with crosstown rivals Manchester City for the signature of John Stones, according to reports.

It is believed that incoming United boss Jose Mourinho has the Everton defender high on his summer wish-list as he gets set to take the reins at Old Trafford.

Reports suggest that Mourinho will be handed £200million to spend on new players which will give him the clout to challenge City who have been heavily linked with Stones in recent months.

Mourinho attempted to sign Stones when he was in charge at Chelsea and will reportedly go after the 21-year-old England international as soon as his job at United becomes official.
