Man Utd striker Weghorst: Scoring at Stretford End was special

Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst has explained his passionate celebration after scoring in victory over Real Betis.

The no.27 had made no secret of his desire to strike in front of home supporters.

Against Real Betis he did just that, reacting quickly in the box to turn home after Scott McTominay's shot had been saved by Claudio Bravo to give United a 4-1 lead on the night - and in our Europa League round-of-16 tie.

"Yeah, I think you could [see] it," he said in an interview with club media, when asked about how it felt to get on the scoresheet at the Theatre of Dreams.

"But yeah, [it was a] great feeling and of course, I had to wait a long time for it - too long.

"[I'm] really happy and at the end I got my goal, so that was a great feeling with the stadium in front of the Stretford End, it was special."

Having been beaten heavily by Liverpool last Sunday, Weghorst feels that he and his team-mates owed it to the fans to bounce back, believing that the resounding win over Betis was the first step on the way to redemption.

"Yeah [we had to bounce back with a win]," he said. "[It was] the only thing [in our minds], actually.

"That was what we wanted - to give a reaction after the defeat that was of course is not acceptable. It [was] not our level, not our standards and definitely something we should avoid and have to avoid for the future.

"So yeah, we were really [happy] to get a reaction and to show us and I think that's what we did [against Betis]."
