Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney admits he was unhappy being substituted during England's Euros rout of Lithuania.
Rooney expects to start for England in Tuesday's friendly against Italy.
He said: "Some players want a rest at times like this but not me.
"I didn't want to come off on Friday to be honest. It is a great honour to play for your country and I always want to play.
"Hopefully I will play again Tuesday and it will be a big test.
"We had a disappointing result against them in the World Cup but I think this game can show how far we have come as a team."
