Man Utd striker Greenwood to spend month in custody

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is set to spend more than a month behind bars after a district judge remanded him in custody following a breach of bail conditions.

The United forward's case has been adjourned to November 21, when a pre-trial preparation hearing will take place at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.

Wearing a grey Nike hoodie and white T-shirt, the 21-year-old confirmed his name, date of birth and address before his barrister, David Toal, made a bail application.

Greenwood was re-arrested on Saturday following an allegation that he breached his bail conditions by contacting the alleged victim. He spent Saturday and Sunday night behind bars, awaiting yesterday morning's court appearance.

Greenwood remains suspended by United "pending the outcome of the judicial process." The club have previously said he is being paid his salary, in the range of £75,000-a-week, in full during the suspension. His last appearance came in a Premier League win against West Ham United on January 22.

Greenwood faces three charges, all relating to the same alleged victim:

  • Attempting to rape a woman on October 22, 2021
  • Engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour between November 1, 2018 and October 15, 2022.
  • Assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm between December 12 and 31, 2021
