Manchester United are step ahead of Manchester City in the race for Velez Sarsfield midfielder Thiago Almada.

The midfielder, who has been compared to Lionel Messi, has been heavily linked to a move to a number of top European clubs.

Manchester City reportedly view Almada as a potential replacement for the outgoing David Silva, while Arsenal are also said to be keen.

The 19-year-old reportedly has a £19million release clause in his contract.

And United are in talks with Velez about a deal this summer.
