Manchester United are poised to sign Barnsley youngster Mason Holgate.
Holgate enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season for Barnsley last season, where he managed to make 22 first team appearances.
As a result, the 18-year-old defender has been attracting the interest from a host of top flight teams and it was recently rumoured that Premier League giants United had placed a bid in the region of around £1million four his services.
It now looks like United are all but set to sign Holgate after Barnsley manager Lee Johnson admitted that his side are destined to lose the talented defender.
Speaking to the Star, Johnson said: "There's been a lot of interest in Mason and, at this stage it looks like we're destined to lose him. But you never know what's going to happen.
"The player can always change his mind. It's great for the lad to be training with Manchester United, it's a fantastic opportunity. But of course I want him to stay and really feel as though he could benefit from a full season in our first team."
