Manchester United aim to secure Ashley Young to a new deal by the end of the year.
The Daily Star says Young, 33, is out of contract next summer and able to speak to foreign clubs from January onwards.
Italian giants Roma are tracking him after United only triggered a one-year extension to keep him in March.
But Young wants to stay at Old Trafford and talks are on-going over another one-year extension to his £130,000-a-week salary.
He has made 214 appearances for the club since joining from Aston Villa in 2011.
