Manchester United have been handed a chance to recruit Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell.

The 41-year-old is leaving Monaco at the end of the summer transfer window, per his own statement this week.

Liverpool were the club being linked with his signature, but Independent now states the two parties could not come to an agreement.

There is speculation that should Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS purchase United from the Glazer family, they want to install Mitchell as sporting director.

He would be seen as the ideal choice to move along the club's project under coach Erik ten Hag.

The other bid for the club is coming from the Qatari royal family, while there are various offers to buy up a minority stake in the team as well.
