Manchester United could be ready to sell Chris Smalling to Roma this window.

The England defender was happy with his loan spell at the Italian capital club.

Smalling wants to continue with Roma for the coming seasons, provided the two clubs can come to an agreement.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Roma are preparing a new offer for Smalling.

United will accept if they are happy with the financial terms, and they could turn their attention to a new defensive signing as well.

30-year-old Smalling was one of the best defenders in Serie A last season, but his lack of passing ability makes him a difficult fit with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United.
