Manchester United retain hope of convincing David de Gea to sign a new deal.
The Guardian says discussions have been ongoing for months and despite no development yet there is still hope he will sign despite them being some distance from reaching an agreement.
The Spaniard's representatives are in discussions with United's hierarchy, and Ed Woodward, the club's executive vice-chairman, and Matt Judge, the head of corporate development, remain optimistic De Gea can be persuaded to commit his future, the report adds.
However, it does also state that United would try to sell the Spaniard this summer should he refuse to sign a new deal to stop him from being able to leave on a free transfer next summer.
