Man Utd prepared to make experienced, short-term signing

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is prepared to make an experienced, short-term signing this month.

The Manchester Evening News says United are open to a short-term signing in the January transfer window but Solskjaer insists any addition needs to have a long-term purpose.

United are exploring options to reinforce their squad before the January 31 deadline but club sources have stressed it is 'highly likely' they will go without signing anyone this month. The club is understood to have finalised their list of long-term targets for the summer, with United intent on making at least four signings.

United have been active in previous January windows, signing Louis Saha in 2004, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in 2006, Juan Mata for a club record £37.1million in 2014 and the extravagant swap deal for Alexis Sanchez two years ago.
