Man Utd offer Carrick contract extension

Manchester United are hoping to extend Michael Carrick's £125,000-a-week deal for one more season, according to Football Insider.

Some would have expected Carrick to have been on the outside looking in this season, after fellow central midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin signed for the Red Devils in the summer.

However, the 34-year-old has remained an important piece of the United set-up, starting 16 times in his 23 appearances.

With his contract running out at the end of the season, Carrick has garnered interest from MLS clubs LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls.

Manager Louis van Gaal and Ryan Giggs are huge supporters of Carrick and will be aiming to persuade chief executive Ed Woodward to extend the Englishman's decade-long stay at Old Trafford beyond this June.

If an extension is not offered, Carrick may very well join fellow ex-England internationals Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard in making the move to the United States.
