Manchester United players welcomed the dismissal of Jose Mourinho yesterday.
The Manchester Evening News says Mourinho arrived at the club's Carrington training ground on Tuesday morning to take training but was informed in person by Woodward that he was to be dismissed.
A dressing room source said the players were 'happy' upon being told of the managerial change and look forward to a more adventurous playing style.
Woodward is set to appoint an interim coach until the end of the season within the next few days. High-level sources claim the change of manager was partly made to 'put smiles back on people's faces' at the club after the turbulent Mourinho tenure.
The caretaker coach is due to be in charge for the Saturday tea-time trip to Cardiff.
