Manchester United made an attempt for Barcelona midfielder Gavi over the summer, it has been revealed.

Gavi rejected the chance to sign for United despite a €5m contract offer, according to journalist Anais Marti Herrero.

The 18-year-old penned a new four-year deal at the Nou Camp this week which contains a €1billion release clause.

United are said to have offered him a three-year deal but Gavi instead decided to stay in Spain.
