Manchester United assistant boss Mike Phelan admits Darren Fletcher is becoming "vital" to their ambitions.

Fletcher struck a stunning volley in United's 3-0 defeat of Everton on Saturday.

And Phelan told BBC Sport: "That's something unusual for Darren - a finish of that quality.

"It shows that he is an improving player and he's becoming very vital for us this season."
