Juan Mata has sent his best wishes to former Manchester United teammate Robin van Persie.

There were fears that the Dutch striker had suffered a potentially serious eye injury when he clashed heads in a Turkish SuperLig game for Fenerbahce on Sunday.

Van Persie was stretchered from the pitch with some outlets reporting that the problems was serious that he may lose vision in his left eye, but medical reports have since made it clear that he suffered a torn eyelid and his vision will not be affected.

Nevertheless, Mata opted to send him a message via his personal blog which was posted on manutd.com.

"I'd like to send a big hug to Robin van Persie," Mata wrote.

"I hope his eye injury after a collision during a game is not as serious as we initially thought, and he gets well very soon."
