Marouane Fellaini is in danger of missing Manchester United's remaining three Premier League matches.
The Belgian midfielder struck out with an errant elbow on Robert Huth as the pair clashed during the first half of the 1-1 draw with Leicester City at Old Trafford.
German defender Huth appeared to tug the back of Fellaini's hair before he reacted with a fierce strike which could have done serious damage had he hit the centre-half in the mouth.
The incident was not picked up by referee Michael Oliver but is likely to be investigated by the FA, however, the maximum ban will not force Fellaini out of United's FA Cup final clash with Crystal Palace next month.
Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli was hit with a three-game ban for an off-the-ball punch on West Bromwich Albion's Claudio Yacob last Monday night and it is believed that Fellaini may also suffer the same fate if his elbow retrospectively goes before an independent panel.
