Man Utd midfielder Carrick survives terrifying flight

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick experienced a terrifying flight to Manchester recently.

The News of the World says he survived a terrifying mid-air scare after the undercarriage failed to lower on a private plane taking him to Manchester.

Despite several attempts by the pilot to lower the landing gear using the on-board computer systems, it failed to release on its final approach.

The plane circled the airfield several times as the pilot consulted cockpit safety manuals for the emergency procedure.

Several fire engines were scrambled and were on the side of the runway as the pilot began making preparations for an emergency landing.

They were eventually saved when the on-board computer was over-ridden and the pilot manually unwound the landing gear.

Carrick's plane eventually made a safe landing. But onlookers claimed the Manchester United midfielder had been left shaken by the incident.

A source said: "He looked like he had a bit of a fright, but it's very rare for something like this to go wrong with an aeroplane."
