Manchester United have made a move for veteran Napoli striker Dries Mertens.

TMW says Mertens will be a free agent at the end of the season and is therefore likely to join those moving on with United among the clubs interested.

Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in acquiring the services of the former PSV attacker.

But any club wishing to buy Mertens will have to at least match the wage demands the winger is asking of Napoli, which stands at £5million-per-season if he stays at Stadio San Paolo, on a two-year deal.

But the Partenopei could even move Mertens on in January if they decide to try and fund an expensive contract offer for free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
