Manchester United have been encouraged in their long-term interest in Jordi Alba.

The Spain left-back has long been admired by United chiefs, even before the arrival of manager Jose Mourinho.

There are concerns inside Alba's camp that Barca are dragging their feet over new contract talks, with his current deal expiring in 2020.

Alba signed a five-year deal in 2015 and it has remained untouched since it was inked.

Mourinho is happy with the early form of Luke Shaw, but remains open to bringing in top class competition and like his staff regards Alba highly.

And Alba's agents know United would be happy to offer him far superior terms to leave the Nou Camp in the New Year.
