Manchester United made a late move for Wolves fullback Matt Doherty.
The Daily Express says United reportedly launched a surprise enquiry for Doherty. The Republic of Ireland international is set to complete a switch to Tottenham this weekend before joining up with his new team-mates after the international break.
Doherty has enjoyed two impressive campaigns in the Premier League since Wolves sealed a return to the top-flight in 2018.
He has been a mainstay under Nuno Espirito Santo and has spent over ten years at the club since joining from Bohemians in 2010 for £75k.
Tottenham have agreed a deal worth around £15m and he will become the club's fourth summer signing alongside fellow new boys Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Alfie Devine and Joe Hart.
Doherty was Jose Mourinho's top target at right-back and is equally as comfortable at wing-back, where he flourished for Wolves.
