Man Utd loanee Chong among Werder Bremen players not released for international duty

Manchester United loanee is not being released by Werder Bremen for international duty.

A five day quarantine is mandatory for players who return to Germany due to COVID-19.

It means several players would miss the next Bundesliga game after the international break.

Chong would have been in the Netherlands Under-21 squad to face Belarus and Portugal in Euro qualifiers.

Milos Veljkovic is another who will not be able to join up with the Serbia squad for their Euro 2020 playoff against Scotland.

Yuya Osako (Japan), Josh Sargent (USA), Milot Rashica (Kosovo) and Marco Friedl (Austria) are also remaining in Germany.

Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann told reporters: "We spoke to our players and the associations.

"We know that the players would like to travel to their teams. However, given the overall situation, we cannot take that risk."
