The Daily Star Sunday says Janmaat's future on Tyneside is in doubt.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is a known admirer of Janmaat, 25. He has also been linked with Liverpool.

Newcastle would seek to replace Janmaat with off contract Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
