Man Utd legend Yorke wants truce with Villa faithful

Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke wants a truce with his former Aston Villa fans.

Yorke was a smash hit in claret and blue before opting for a big money switch to Old Trafford - a decision which angered many supporters.

Despite the fans fury, Yorke insists he loved playing for the club and describes his time at Villa as a "very special part" in his life.

He told Villa's website: "I've said you've got to earn the right for the Villa fans to appreciate you and over the years I think I've done that. The fans made me one of their favourites because of my performance on the football pitch and my relationship with them.

"I gave back as much as they gave to me but you've got to earn the right. The Holte End was very special, when you've scored and you hear the celebration and they are singing your name it's amazing.

"The 'New York, New York' song and all that kind of stuff was just great and it made me feel special as an individual and no one will take that away from me.

"I've enjoyed those moments and the nine years I spent at the club were phenomenal and it was a great learning curve for me as an individual."
