Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney insists he was happy he didn't score in his farewell game for England last night.
During the 3-0 win over USA, Rooney was brought on midway through the second half, but despite a few shots on target, was unable to bag a goal.
The DC United striker said, "Another yard it would have been in and a goal, it would have been great.
"But in some ways it's great because if I did score it would have opened up a whole new debate about whether it counts or not. So in some ways it's better it didn't go in."
The DC United star added: "I want to thank the FA and Gareth, and the players, for giving me the opportunity. To finish off my international game, the lads played brilliantly.
"Unfortunately I couldn't get the goal, but it'll be something I remember for a long time."
