Man Utd legend Neville: Shaw deserved red for Gudmundsson challenge

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Luke Shaw could have been sent off against Burnley.

There was a passage of play where Shaw committed a rough tackle on Johan Berg Gudmundsson, where he did win the ball.

His follow through caught Gudmundsson, and the referee looked at video evidence to give Shaw a yellow card.

The same passage of play had resulted in a Burnley player fouling Edison Cavani who was through on goal - but the game was brought back to the spot where Shaw committed the foul.

"I don't think he gets the ball, Luke Shaw, no he doesn't. That's a foul. When you look at him there, when he misses the ball, it's the studs that go into the side of his shin," Neville said on Sky Sports' commentary.

"It doesn't look clever when you slow it down. Luke Shaw could be in trouble because he misses the ball, then the follow-through. It's a foul, definitely. He actually puts his left leg out towards, but we'll see.

"I think he's lucky because his left leg seems to follow-through, but it looked like a genuine attempt at the time. When you look at it again, it's the best he could've hoped for out of that."
