Manchester United legend Gary Neville claims executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward blocked Jose Mourinho from signing Jerome Boateng.
Neville says Mourinho wanted to sign the Germany international for £50M in his final transfer window as Red Devils boss last summer.
"What the Glazers and Ed Woodward have realised in the last 18 months is that they've stopped saying 'yes' to managers. Jose wanted to sign Boateng for £50M," Neville told Sky.
"Bayern Munich don't let anyone go that's half decent. We've been burnt on Bastian Schweinsteiger and they obviously didn't want to pay the money for Maguire at the time – so that's cost them money in the end."
