Man Utd legend Evra doubles down on criticism of van de Beek signing

Manchester United legend Patrice Evra is refusing to back down in his criticism of the signing of Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch midfielder has warmed the bench since arriving at United from Ajax in the summer.

Given the Red Devils have Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and a host of other midfielders, Evra believes it was an unnecessary signing.

The Frenchman was doing punditry during United's 0-0 draw with Chelsea at the weekend.

And speaking via Instagram, Evra added to his comments: "My dear United fans. Recently I made a comment on Sky saying we don't need Donny van de Beek.

"When I say we don't need him, I will give you a few examples: Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic... love them or hate them, when we have to play big games and have to be big and strong they always deliver. This is my opinion.

"Is Donny van de Beek better than Paul Pogba? No. Bruno Fernandes? No.

"The way he played for Ajax is what I want to see for United, but we have one problem: How many games has he started this season?

"So that's why I say we don't need him, because it wasn't urgent.

"I'm not happy with that and I feel sad for the kid, because when you sign for £40m you expect to play more. But I trust Ole, the player needs to trust Ole, he needs to stay calm and he will get his chance.

"So don't twist my words when I say with Donny he wasn't an urgency (sic)."
