Andy Cole believes Newcastle United did well out of his sale to Manchester United.
There was bedlam on Tyneside when Kevin Keegan agreed to sell his star striker to United.
Looking back at the manic day when his £7m transfer to Old Trafford made world headlines, he told the Evening Chronicle: "The fans were angry because of the way it came about.
"The thing was it was massive money.
"Even a club like Newcastle couldn't turn that down.
"Certainly Newcastle weren't paying that type of money to bring people in.
"The top was about £2.7m or something.
"So to get £7m AND Keith Gillespie wasn't a bad deal was it?"
