Man Utd hero Ferdinand: England job has become ‘comical’

Rio Ferdinand believes the wider football community is sitting back and having a good old guffaw at England.

Tuesday's shock resignation by Sam Allardyce, after he was found to be negotiating a £400,000 deal in exchange for information of how to bend the FA's transfer rules, has the British football world in a frenzy.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand cannot believe Allardyce's actions and says the FA had absolutely no choice to but to sack the man who took over from Roy Hodgson just 67 days ago.

"The rest of the football community around the world will be laughing at us," Ferdinand told BT Sport.

"The England role has become comical. This was a man who was passionate about getting the job. He forced the FA to act.

"Naivety seems to be the word coming up. It's disappointing for English football."
