Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand believes that only two English sides are capable of winning the Champions League.

Ferdinand, who is now a pundit for BT Sport, has named Manchester City and Liverpool as the two teams he sees as contenders for Europe's biggest prize.

Tottenham and United are the two other teams from England in the group stages this season.

But Ferdinand does not see them as true contenders for the trophy.

"I think Liverpool and Manchester City are contenders, and it hurts me to say that but it's a fact," he said to Goal.com.

"I think them two are definite contenders, the only two English teams who are capable of winning it, but whether they do or not remains to be seen."
