Man Utd great Ferdinand: Stones needs to leave or fully commit to Everton

Rio Ferdinand has urged John Stones to make a decision either way on his club future.

The 22-year-old defender continues to be the subject of a tug-of-war between Manchester City and Everton in a second straight summer window of uncertainty.

Former Manchester United and England star centre-half Ferdinand sees a lot he likes in Stones and believes he could be a top quality player at both club and national team level once he sorts out his future.

“At international level, look at the last two tournaments – we haven't had a player who can bring the ball out of defence, who can put his foot on the ball," Ferdinand said via BT Sport.

“I see a lot of myself in him – I see a lot of what Glenn Hoddle was trying to do with me. And I wish that Glenn Hoddle had been my manager for a longer period of time, because I think he got much more out of me as a player.

“And I hope that the same doesn't happen with John Stones, because you could lose a big asset to the England team.

“I think he needs to go or to commit his future to Everton. He seems like he's playing with something on his mind.

“I know what it's like. Until your future gets sorted out, it's difficult. It's a blur. You're frustrated. You want things sorted out."
