Manchester United right-back Guillermo Varela is set to join Serie A club Genoa on loan.

Italian publication Tuttomercatoweb, who claims to have a photograph of the player's agent meeting Genoa officials, is reporting that the 22-year-old is on the verge of completing a temporary move to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

The Uruguayan has made three appearances for the Red Devils this season, and is in search of regular playing time.

Varela was signed by former United manager David Moyes in 2013 and spent last season on loan with Real Madrid Castilla.
