Man Utd fans frustrated: Why can't we find way past the bus, Jose?!

I woke up this morning feeling fine, but come 2.30pm on Saturday the mood was different.

Less than seven days ago Jose Mourinho had delivered his first major trophy, doing so in his first season in charge, something that eluded the two great Sirs, Busby and Fergie.

The run of results since that October mauling at Chelsea has been impressive, as the clocks went back and the orange ball came out United started performing and delivering results.

A second leg defeat to Hull City, in a semifinal tie that was pretty much already over has been the only defeat. The euphoria on the terraces is starting to return as United close the gap on the top four, yet bar a couple of hours we have been stuck in sixth place.

'I'm into something good' has been the terrace anthem, serenading the team, even more vocally away from home. But has Jose really got us playing the way Man United should?

The frustration in results and performances comes against the inability to break down the teams who turn up and park the proverbial bus - and we can add the frustration of teams systematically wasting time, cheating.

Stoke, Burnley, Hull and now Bournemouth, all teams you turn up hoping to see a hatful of goals, yet the attacking talent at disposal has struggled to break them down.

Against Bournemouth the big players didn't turn up and the team looked tired. Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Phil Jones weren't up to match sharpness and it showed. Michael Carrick has a recent injury and his performance was poor from a player of his quality. Renowned for his passing vision he found the touchline more than he found a Red shirt.

Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the star names and the ones taking the recent plaudits weren't cutting it. Too many times the ball was hit long for Zlatan and not for the first time, the centre halves won the battle. Zlatan's goals speak for themselves and you cannot argue against the goals he's scored and the winners he's hit. But often the goals mask his performance, oblivious for 89 minutes, but still managing to score. The fans can see it and maybe he needs a rest? An almost present this season the big Swede has played nearly every minute and has featured in every game. At his age it's usually about rotation and rest, yet he continues to rack up the minutes. A likely three match domestic ban might just be the rest he needs ahead of the run in.

The games are coming thick and fast and a Europa League trip to Russia isn't the ideal journey for the players or the travelling fans. Yet the Europa League could be the only way into next season's Champions League. It's a European trophy that United have never won and I for one, hope we go onto win it in Sweden in May.

Next up is an FA Cup game at Stamford Bridge. The Monday night TV schedule has no regard for the travelling fans, but the extra days rest after that trip to Russia can only benefit the players rather than a Sunday game.

Stamford Bridge will show how far this United team has come since October. Chelsea look set to walk to the league title and even though they're not as potent as they were earlier in the season, they are still getting the wins.

Jose knows what it takes to win one off Cup games, but rather than parking the bus, we may have to do it playing the United way.
