Man Utd face frustration in Longstaff pursuit

Manchester United's move for Sean Longstaff is dependent on the future of Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez.

United are keen to land the Geordie midfielder, 21, and are thought to be preparing a bid.

But the Toon boss could stand in the way of a potential transfer.

That is because despite not signing a contract extension just yet Benitez, 59, will still be employed as the Newcastle boss until June 30.

And according to the Chronicle, the Spaniard will have the final say on transfers until that date and is not wanting to let Longstaff leave, regardless of whether he is in charge next season.

That time frame could cause a problem for Manchester United, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eager to have their business done for July 1.
