Man Utd defender Mengi: Tuanzebe great inspiration

Teden Mengi admits he takes inspiration from Axel Tuanzebe as he targets Manchester United's first team.

The teenage defender has already made his senior debut, though will start for United tonight in their FA Youth Cup semifinal against Chelsea.

He told the Manchester Evening News: "Axel's a great inspiration.

"I've always watched Axel even though there is an age difference, I've always watched him. He takes everything really seriously. He was out for a long time - 10 months - and to go and produce a performance like he did against PSG was brilliant to watch, brilliant to see.

"But there is a lot to take from Axel, he helps me a lot. I remember my first session, he was the first to come up to me and say, 'how are you doing? Everything all right?' Because we play in similar positions so he was just telling me to be calm, don't get too nervous, things like that. Axel's a great inspiration for me.

"Everyone in my position - Harry [Maguire], Vic [Lindelof], Eric [Bailly], they're all very helpful and all always want to help, they're good guys on and off the pitch, always talking, always trying to get you involved.

"They're always giving advice as well, that's a good thing. That's why I like being around the first-team set-up, not only the people in my position but everyone wants to help, so it's a good environment to be in."
