Manchester United captain Harry Maguire admits losing the Euro 2020 final to Italy was tough to handle.
The Three Lions were within a whisker of winning the tournament, after they had gone 1-0 up in the final at Wembley through Luke Shaw.
However, Italy equalised in normal time, took the game to extra time, and eventually won on penalties.
Maguire, speaking on international duty with England, admitted the loss hurt a great deal.
Maguire said: "It hurts and it always will hurt. Will you ever get over losing a penalty shootout to become European champions? Probably only if you win one of these major tournaments will you overcome that.
"I haven't watched any of it. Only a few short videos and things you get tagged in but I have not sat down and watched it. I don't think it is something I would want to do.
"Maybe in the future I will sit back and maybe watch the journey back in terms from the start to the end and the goals and things but yeah, at the moment it is something I want to stay away from.
"Getting to the final of a European Championship has not been done before in England's history so it is the past and maybe when I am retired I will look at my achievements and I might end up watching the final.
"But of course, at the moment, I am looking forward to the future and where we can go as a team."
Maguire added: "We have to look at ourselves to improve in every aspect. We are talking about the finest of margins here, though, we got beat on a penalty shootout to a very good team who we matched in the final.
"Of course we are going to look to improve, that's what these next 15 months are all about. I think the belief is there amongst the group.
"You know you're playing qualifiers for a World Cup, and you look around the room, and you generally feel you've got a great chance if you improve and do everything right."
