Manchester United defender Phil Jones is surprised by talk of interest from Newcastle United.

The Evening Chronicle says Jones' camp have no knowledge of any interest from Newcastle in the United defender's services.

The centre-back has made just eight appearances for the Red Devils this season and has not played since January.

While football is not at the forefront of their minds right now, the player's camp have had no contact from Newcastle and they have certainly not been made aware of any interest from the Magpies by Manchester United officials.

They are also keen to point out that Jones only signed a new four-year contract last year, which includes an option to extend that deal by a further 12 months.
