Man Utd defender Jones calm over Newcastle interest

Manchester United defender Phil Jones is staying calm over talk of interest from Newcastle United.

The Evening Chronicle says Jones' camp have 'nothing to report' and insist the Manchester United defender is 'still working on his fitness' after he was again linked with a move to Newcastle United.

It would be a surprise if the Magpies did not make a loan signing next month - even if Steve Bruce will have to make room in his 25-man squad.

The Newcastle head coach is sure to be keeping an eye on those players who are a little out of favour at Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Man City in particular.

It is worth remembering that Bruce explored moves for Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud a year ago while the Newcastle head coach signed Spurs' left-back Danny Rose on loan after Jetro Willems suffered a serious knee injury.
