Man Utd coaching option raised for Grant as West Brom finalise Johnstone deal

Manchester United are ready to welcome new signing Lee Grant as they prepare to sell Sam Johnstone to West Brom.

The deal for Stoke City goalkeeper Grant has gathered pace with Johnstone set to join relegated West Brom for an initial £6.5million fee that could rise to £10m.

Johnstone has been on a variety of loans since coming through the United academy and impressed many clubs with his performances at Aston Villa last season.

The Manchester Evening News says Grant is expected to fill a role at United similar to one veteran keeper Richard Wright performed for four years at Manchester City.

Like Wright, it is not expected Grant will get any game-time but his professionalism will ensure the club have reasonable cover for David De Gea and Sergio Romero, with the option of a future coaching role also on the cards.
