Manchester United are eyeing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.
The Germany international is off contract in June.
The Daily Star says Louis van Gaal is eyeing a defensive midfielder in the summer and World Cup winner Khedira - who has already confirmed he will leave Real Madrid in the summer - would fit the bill perfectly.
At the age of 28 Khedira would cost a significant amount less than other Red Devils targets Kevin Strootman and Paul Pogba.
The German's wages could prove to be a stumbling block to any potential deal. It is understood he wants £200,000-a-week to seal an Old Trafford switch.
