Raphael Varane admits he would be open to leaving Real Madrid if it meant he became a regular starter.
The French centre-back has started 18 times in La Liga and on six occasions in the Champions League this season with Sergio Ramos and Pepe often ahead of him in the pecking order.
Despite having featured 10 times since Zinedine Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez, Varane feels he is not been given the best of opportunities at the Santiago Bernabeu and could be promoted to leave the Spanish giants if a more frequent position was to pop up elsewhere.
"I would like to play every game. The coach knows what I want, but it's up to him to make the decisions," said the 22-year-old.
"I've spent five years playing with the best and I've never lost heart. Without strength of character it's impossible to stay at Real Madrid.
"It's pointless making long-term plans in football. I'm happy in Madrid. I want to keep improving to go to the next level.
"We'll see how my situation develops, but I'm not having any headaches over it anyway."
Manchester United have been heavily linked with the France international in recent times and will make him a priority if Jose Mourinho is appointed manager while Chelsea have been a long-term admirer of the former Lens young gun who has been with Real since 2011.
