Man Utd captain Maguire: I loved it at Sheffield Utd

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire admits he loved his time at Sheffield United.

The towering centre-back came through the ranks in South Yorkshire, breaking into the first-team as a teenager in 2011.

The Red Devils made Maguire the most expensive defender in the world when they paid Leicester £80m for his signature in 2019.

And Maguire, who will run out against the Blades at Old Trafford on Wednesday, hasn't forgotten his roots.

"I loved it," Maguire said of his time at Bramall Lane.

"I had some ups and downs; when I was a second-year scholar I found myself in and out of the team and it's crazy how things can turn. At that age you don't know how close you are to the first team, you don't really believe how close you are. But it's just around the corner, and when the opportunity comes you've got to take it.

"I had two big influences at United: one was Chris Morgan, who had a nasty injury. I grew up watching him for United and then ended up on the coaching team when I was breaking through, and he had a big influence on my defensive part of the game.

"And when I broke in I always played alongside Neill Collins, who was massive for my development and told me when I was doing anything wrong. I got an earful every now and then! But he was great and those two are a big part of where I am and where I'm playing now."
