Man Utd captain Maguire defends De Gea after howler: Save was world class

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire defended David de Gea after his rollercoaster game at Everton.

On just three minutes, De Gea failed to release the ball and fired straight at Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin which handed Everton an early lead.

United equalised through Bruno Fernandes and could have snatched all three points in the closing stages but Jordan Pickford denied Odion Ighalo with a fine stop.

It was then De Gea's turn to make amends with a superb save to keep the scores level and Maguire praised his goalkeeper after the game.

"It was a great reaction save [by Jordan Pickford], it was an unbelievable chance to win the game - and David pulled off a world class save for us too," he told BBC Sport.

"We will take the point, we came for three but we dug in.

"We showed a great reaction and dominated the game from when they scored and deserved to come in level at half time.

"We dug in deep and if you can't win three you take one point."
