Man Utd called Atletico Madrid last summer after identifying Joao Felix as next Ronaldo

Manchester United reportedly wanted Atletico Madrid starlet Joao Felix last summer.

Signed for €120m in 2019, 21-year-old Felix has failed to set the world on fire with Atleti.

Reports have claimed Atleti and Barcelona are discussing a swap deal with Felix and Antoine Griezmann.

Things could have been different last summer however, as according to Le10Sport, United officials made contact with Atleti about signing Felix.

The French outlet claims United viewed the Portuguese whizkid as the next Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo famously grew into one of the world's biggest stars at Old Trafford after arriving at the club as a youngster from Sporting Lisbon.

United believed they could oversee the same development with Felix, who has failed to settle in Diego Simeone's system at the Wanda Metropolitano.
