Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag explained the players staying on the pitch to see Manchester City lift the FA Cup.

Ten Hag declared City are the "best team in the world" in the aftermath.

"First of all, I want to congratulate City with the win of the FA Cup," Ten Hag said. "It was very narrow, it was head to head, we played very competitive out of a very good organisation.

"We didn't allow them [chances] from open play against probably the best team in the world in this moment. We fought back after a quick goal down and I think we are the only team in the world who is capable of fighting back against this team, from City. I was happy with the performance of my team.

"Show respect, always, but of course it's a motivation," Ten Hag explained of United's post-match conduct. "You have to feel it in your stomach, it hurts. It has to be fuel.

"Our team, my players, deserved it but you have to grab it and that is the next step we have to make."
