Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says Facundo Pellistri must fight for his place.

Pellistri embarked on two separate loan spells with Alaves and seemed set to head out on loan again until he sustained an ankle injury in the pre-season friendly defeat to Atletico Madrid on July 30.

"He was injured, a long period against Atletico Madrid," Ten Hag said.

"Bad injury. So he is now returning.

"We have young players in the background in the offensive positions, quite good competition there. They have to battle for it and to convince us and to convince me they deserve to be in the team. So he's one of the options."
