Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says they must be more competitive next season.

The Norwegian saw his side exit both the FA Cup and Champions League before missing out on a top four spot, and he has named the latter as a target for next season.

“Next season we will make sure to climb closer to the top," he told TV2 in Norway.

“There are not so many points to the top four, and we will fight for trophies.

“The margins are small in several matches, but just like Manchester City and Liverpool are so far ahead that we can't think of taking it again in one go.

“We must improve ourselves and not think about anything other than what we can do about ourselves.

“There are some teams that are good and it is a super challenge to catch up with the teams.

“We did it before with Manchester United. We will always be able to get better, so we'll see what the other teams will be."
